High Voltage (HV) electricity infrastructure forms part of the distribution network that carries power from major transmission lines to local substations and communities. This equipment is commonly found on or near private land, including residential properties, farmland and commercial sites.
High Voltage apparatus can affect property in a number of ways, including:
- Wooden poles, H-poles or twin poles positioned on your land
- Overhead power lines crossing gardens, fields or boundaries
- Stay wires or supporting structures anchored within your property
- Access requirements for electricity companies to inspect or maintain equipment
Where HV infrastructure is installed on or near your property, electricity companies may be required to compensate the landowner for the use of that land. In many cases, property owners are unaware that compensation may be available.
